What is a Spice Box?

A Spice Box is a container used to organise a collection of frequently used spices. The importance of a Spice Box is that it is necessary to ensure that your spices are kept fresh, organised and easily accessible whilst cooking.

My family has a spice box, but it looks different to the Lord & Lion Spice Box. Why is that?

The Lord & Lion Spice Boxes are different than the ones that most people have seen growing up for the following reasons:

The Lord & Lion Spice Boxes are modernised, sleek versions of the original Spice Box.
The Lord & Lion Spice Boxes are larger and contain 13 spices, as opposed to 7-9 spices.
The Lord & Lion Spice Boxes are covered and also contain tins which dark – to ensure light does not impact the spices, thereby keeping the spices fresher for longer.
The Lord & Lion Spice Boxes include a beautiful gold spice spoon, handmade cotton tea towel as well as a selection of our family’s favourite Indian recipes and Sri Lankan recipes to take the guesswork out of cooking Indian food and Sri Lankan food.

How long does a Spice Box last for?

Spices can last for many years as long as they are kept fresh without oxidisation and exposure to any form of moisture.

Our spices are packed fresh usually 3-4 weeks prior to dispatch to ensure that the Spice Boxes last for 18 months to 2 years.

What happens if we run out of spices?

When you run out of your spices, we sell replacements spices in small sleeves to refill your spice tins. This ensures that the Lord & Lion Spice Boxes are environmentally safe and sustainable.

Is it better to purchase bulk spices?

Spices which are purchased in bulk are often purchased in plastic bags which have been sitting on shelves for a long time, exposed to light. Also, due to the sizes of the bags and the frequency of use, the spices become oxidised, exposed to the air and humidity, and therefore spoil very quickly in comparison to those kept in airtight, opaque tins.

Our Spices are single origin spices, traceable to the source and produced in small batches to ensure that the spices last as long as possible.

Is the Spice Box heavy?

No, our Spice Boxes are not heavy – they each weigh approximately 1.5kg, thereby making it easily accessible and portable as well as easy to store.

Where are the Spice Boxes made?

Each Lord & Lion Spice Boxes is handmade in Sydney, Australia, with spices grown on our family’s plantations in Sri Lanka and India.

Can we order a replacement Spice Box?

It is possible to purchase Spice Boxes to replace your existing Spice Box. If you would prefer different recipe cards to be included in your Lord & Lion Spice Box, please email us at info@lordandlion.com and we will send you different recipe cards for your replacement Spice Box.

How quickly do the Spice Boxes arrive?

Depending on where you send the package to, your Lord & Lion Spice Box can be received within 2-3 days in metropolitan areas after shipment, or 3-4 weeks if sent internationally, depending on the customs processes in each country. You can also track your parcel as soon as the package has been sent for shipping.

Yes, the Lord & Lion Spice Boxes are so light and portable that they are easy to travel with. Furthermore, they have everything you need inside them, including the gold spice spoon, beautiful cotton tea towel and Indian recipes (in the Maharaja Spice Box, which is the Indian Spice Box), and Sri Lankan recipes (in the Lankan Spice Box, which is the Sri Lankan Spice Box).

Is it possible to purchase more recipes?
